Erasmus+ “Employer Programme for Hospitality and Tourism”

For many years now, the Higher Hotel Institute has been supplying the catering, hospitality and tourism industry with well-trained staff. Being fully aware of its mission, the Institute constantly strives to maximize co-operation between businesses and tertiary-level educational institutions which offer higher education in hospitality and tourism.

Among the activities that the Institute employs to achieve this objective, is the proposal for the implementation of the Employer Programme for Hospitality and Tourism. The proposal was approved within the framework of the competitive European Erasmus + programme, and this programme is expected to be completed by August 2018. In this venture, the Higher Hotel Institute Cyprus has been allocated the leading role, making it responsible for the coordination of 7 partners from 5 different countries: Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Finland and Spain.

The aim of the project is to develop and systematize the cooperation between hospitality / tourism businesses, tertiary educational institutions offering programmes of study in hospitality and tourism and their students. This will be achieved through a modern and efficient employer programme especially designed for hospitality and tourism. The implementation of the programme will be facilitated through an electronic platform which will be designed specifically for this purpose. The resulting benefits will be multiple for all those involved, hospitality / tourism enterprises, tertiary educational institutions offering programmes in hospitality and tourism and their students.

In general terms, drawing on international research, we will create a best practice guide for the purpose of linking human resources to our field of work. This work will result in the preparation of an Operation Manual and the creation of an Electronic Platform, which will bring together the various stakeholders, namely, students, tertiary-level educational institutions and businesses.

Consequently, businesses will have better access to students as well as graduates of tertiary-level educational institutions to fill positions of industrial training, part-time or permanent positions, in accordance with their needs. Added to that, students will gain a better knowledge of enterprises and will thus be able to make the right choices resulting in best possible job offer.
